August 2010Apologies for being so tardy in the updates department. August (and July) was a very busy time for IL RLO sharing with the very first CaRILLO (Creating and Re-using Information Literacy Learning Objects) day, on the 3rd August, held at the University of Birmingham. We had a very high demand and the event was sold out within just a few days. The event saw thirty like minded librarians from across the UK getting together to listen to talks on RLOs and work in groups to discuss and think about RLO creation and re-use. The feedback was generally very positive and we have been asked to put on further events focusing on creative workshops and discussion.
We will start work on CaRILLO 2 soon, but in the meantime please follow this link to our SlideShare page, upon which you will find all of the presentations from the day:
http://www.slideshare.net/NancyGrahamI have also set up a CaRILLO page (see the left hand menu) to store information and links from the day.
March 2010Hello all LILAC 2010 attendees! Please take a look at the section '
IL RLO initiatives/projects/repositories' on the menu on the left to explore learning material for re-use. Please send in any links that you think would be useful.
January 2010Great news!! JorumOpen has been launched. Users anywhere in the world can now search and download learning objects without the need to log in or register. Users who wish to deposit will need authentication.
www.jorum.ac.uk December 2009The RLO CETL has just released GLO Maker2.1. This upgraded version will allow users to add hyperlinks to learning objects. Free download is available here:
http://www.glomaker.org/downloads.htmlThey have also set up a wiki to share experiences and information:
http://glomaker.wetpaint.com/November 2009I've added 5 new links to the
IL RLO initiatives... page. Look out for those with
***NEW!!*** next to them.
I attended the launch of the Creatively Using Learning Technologies (CULT) project at the University of Worcester a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting as they have brought together links and information on different types of technologies, along with examples and testimonials, to support the creation of learning material. Go to the website for more:
http://www.worc.ac.uk/ils/cult/cult.htmlOctober 2009Apologies for being away for so long. What with taking on a temporary promotion and autumn training of 400+ medical students there hasn't been much time to dedicate to this site or to the IL RLO initiative. I will be dedicating much more time from now on, and setting up an event in early 2010 to get interested folk together. Please keep an eye on this page and your email inboxes for further information.
Other news:
June 2009A few things to highlight this month:
- I've finally got around to putting the initiatives/projects list into A-Z order.
- I've added a new event, the SOLSTICE one-day workshop on creating and sharing digital content, to the events page. I will write up and report back.
- I've added a precis of the Good Intentions report (http://ie-repository.jisc.ac.uk/265/) to the Literature review page.
- The JISC funded Open Educational Resources projects are now underway - please keep an eye on these projects, especially if there is one running at your institution. For more information follow this link: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/oer
April 2009Welcome to the the Information Literacy Re-usable Learning Objects (IL RLO for short) Sharing site. This site has been set up as a response to the discussion at
LILAC 2009 on the creation and sharing of learning material to support information literacy. It was clear from discussion that you were all keen on some sort of community of practice (CoP) being established and to this end this site will include:
- information and links about various IL RLO initiatives, both in the UK and abroad
- information about relevant events
- a discussion forum in order to continue the discussions started at LILAC
And, as this is a wiki, you will be able to add and edit content, add links and post discussion topics too. This is designed to be a starting point for the CoP, so please use it as such. It may be that we will organise face to face events in the future but to keep the momentum going please do contribute to the site.
Best wishes,
Nancy Graham
